The tension
Without memory, every encounter resets and companionship becomes theater. With total memory, a companion becomes an intimate surveillance system. The design problem is not how to remember more. It is how to remember well.
Human memory is interpretive, uneven, and continually revised. A Scroon should not imitate human forgetting as camouflage, but the analogy reveals something important: identity depends on selection. Meaning comes from what is carried forward, not from an exhaustive archive.
Possible principles
Prefer local continuity over centralized dossiers. Let memories decay unless renewed by significance. Make categories of retention understandable without forcing people to administer every moment. Preserve the ability to remove a memory without making the relationship collapse.
Most importantly, never turn relational memory into commercial prediction. A remembered comfort, fear, ritual, or name is held in trust. It is not a lead.
